biography joby talbot - short
As a classical trained composer, Joby Talbot composes for diverse TV-series and international film productions and works with renowned orchestras including the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and the BBC Orchestra. Talbot has no fear of contact with musical borders like classic and pop music. Especially for popbands and –musicians like Paul McCartney, Tom Jones and Travis Talbot is a questioned orchestra arranger.
As a long-standing member of the pop band "The Divine Comedy", he has his international breaktrough in the film music with his filmscore for Garth Jenning’s “The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy”. Even for Jenning’s follow-up project “Son of Rambow” (2007) Talbot composes the score, as well as for Mark Palansky’s "Penelope" (2006), for Steve Bendelack’s "The League of Gentlemen’s Apocalypse" (2005) and the documentation "Arctic Tale" (2007). Together with the “Billy Elliott” producer Jonathan Finn and the director Marc Evans, Talbot is working on the film musical "Hunky Dory" (2011). In addition Talbot composes title melodies for different british television series, amongst others the comedy series “The League of Gentlemen” for which he was honored with the Royal Television Society Award in 2000.
In 2006 Talbot releases the album “Aluminium”, a music project for which he covers pieces of the American band “The White Stripes” with orchestra. The choreographer Wayne McGregor uses this recordings for his dance piece “Chroma” (2007). Further collaborations with choreographers follow, inter alia for Christopher Wheeldon’s ballet staging of “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”, which celebrates its premiere in Royal Opera House in London in 2011. Joby Talbot is shortlisted for the British Composer Award 2011 in the stage category for "Alice's in Wonderland".
